Dunlop extends MXGP tyre deal with Infront Moto Racing
Dunlop will continue as the Official Tyre Partner of the MXGP World Championship, following a continuation of its agreement with Infront Moto Racing.
Dunlop has announced a continuation of its agreement with Infront Moto Racing to remain the official tyre sponsor of the MXGP World Championship.
Dunlop’s continuation as the Official Tyre Partner of MXGP comes as the motocross world anticipates the arrival of the Dunlop MX34 tyre, which is nearing release, and a week after the conclusion of MXGP’s brief Iberian tour, where it had back-to-back Grands Prix in Portugal and Spain.
Although MXGP is an open-tyre category, Dunlop currently competes in MXGP with its Geomax range (particularly the MX14 and MX33) utilised by a number of teams, including Kawasaki Racing Team, Standing Construct Honda, and Husqvarna Nestaan MX2.
It was with Kawasaki in 2021 that Romain Febvre took the MXGP title fight to the final race of the season against Pirelli-shod KTM's Jeffrey Herlings, which included a win at Lommel with Dunlop’s sand-specific Geomax MX14 tyre, which was then still in-development. Brian Bogers, for the Standing Construct team (then running Husqvarna machinery) was also victorious at Lommel with Dunlop’s MX14 tyre last year, following its official launch.
In US motocross and supercross, Dunlop is the tyre of choice for many of the factory teams, including Team HRC Honda, which won all three AMA Supercross titles with Jett Lawrence (250SX West), Hunter Lawrence (250SX East), and Chase Sexton (450SX) in 2023. In total, Dunlop’s US title successes number 173, and include every AMA Pro Motocross and AMA Supercross title since 2010.
Wim Van Achter, Motorsport Manager, Dunlop: “We are thrilled to continue promoting our tires through the MXGP championship and utilising it as an essential part of our tire development process.
“Our range of tires, including the versatile Geomax MX14 and MX33 models, reflect the hard work and dedication exhibited during competition, which is made possible by collaborating with esteemed riders such as Romain Febvre and Kay De Wolf.”
Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo: “Dunlop is a historical partner of MXGP and we are very happy to announce that it will continue for three more years. The MXGP World Championship is a fantastic laboratory to continue to develop new technology for the tires thanks to the diversity of its track, from sand to hard ground soil.
“I would like to thank Dunlop for their trust and collaboration and I am sure we will continue [to grow] this fruitful partnership.”
The 2023 MXGP World Championship continues this weekend at the MXGP of France in Villars-sous-Ecot.
