FIM Women's Speedway Academy comes to the UK in 2023
The FIM Women's Speedway Academy will be coming to the UK this August for the second edition of the event, after its debut in Germany last year.
FIM Women in Motorcycling has announced that the FIM Women's Speedway Academy will be coming to the UK in August.
The FIM Women’s Speedway Academy (WSA) debuted last year in Diedenbergen in Germany, but will be arriving in the UK later this year.
The host location for the 2023 WSA will be the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester, home of the Belle Vue speedway teams (Aces and Colts), and host to the 2016 Speedway World Cup (before it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations in 2018).
WSA provides speedway training from a number of angles, both on and off the track. In addition to on-track training, the WSA also teaches nutrition, diet, media, and sponsorship. Tuition is led by three-time Speedway World Champion Jason Crump, and current Speedway Grand Prix race director, Phil Morris.
The Manchester-based WSA will take place this summer, specifically on 4-5 August, and will invite 16-years-and-older riders from both the UK and overseas to take part, just as was the case in Germany last year. On that occasion, there were six participants: Teegan Peddler (AUS), Katie Gordon (GBR), Celina Liebmann (GER), Nynke Sijbesma (NED), Kim Kempa (GER), and Patricia Erhart (GER).
In addition to being a woman aged 16 or older, there are some other requirements to be able to take part in the WSA. To start with, an FIM licence is necessary, and an entry form must be submitted. Participants must also provide their own helmet (either road race or off-road), and their own racing suit (either speedway or leather), as well as goggles and race gloves. Speedway boots are also required, but they are available on request, as are speedway steel shoes.
Further information entry requirements and the process of signing up is available via an information pack made by FIM Women in Motorcycling which is available to view on Canva.
