Gino Rea a "warrior" says Terry Rymer in latest update

The manager of Gino Rea, Terry Rymer, has given another update on the condition of Rea.

Since Rea’s crash nearly two weeks ago now in practice at the Suzuka 8 Hour, updates have continued in a positive direction, coming from both Rymer and Rea’s family. 

The previous update on the condition of the former Grand Prix rider came from Rea’s family via his Instagram account two days ago on 16 August 2022, when it was announced that Rea’s ventilator had been removed and he was able to communicate.

Today (18 August 2022), Rea’s manager, Terry Rymer, himself an ex-World Endurance rider and Suzuka 8 Hour winner, offered a further update on Rea via his own Twitter account. 

“Gino’s health still improving,” Rymer said. “[The] doctors are very happy with his progress.”

Rymer called Rea “a warrior” in his tweet, and advised to “keep an eye out for family updates for a more detailed account on Gino’s Instagram.”

Rea’s crash happened on the Friday before the 2022 Suzuka 8 Hour. His team, the FCC TSR Honda France team, was able to continue with its two remaining riders, Mike di Meglio and Josh Hook, and finished 10th despite troubles at the start of the race. 

The race was won by Honda Team HRC, and their trio of Iker Lecuona, Takumi Takahashi and Tetsuta Nagashima. The #33 dominated the race, winning ahead of the factory KRT Kawasaki of Jonathan Rea, Alex Lowes and Leon Haslam, while Yoshimura SERT Suzuki were promoted to the podium in the final hour thanks to a crash from YART Yamaha’s Marvin Fritz while overtaking a lapped Superstock rider.
