KTM have announced their European Junior E-Motocross series is returning for its second season in 2022, and that registrations are now open.

The competition is open to 6-8-year-olds, where their age is taken from 1 January 2022. So, for example, if someone was eight-years-old on 1 January 2022, but turned nine-years-old in February, they would still be eligible.

To be accepted, any applicant must commit to racing at least three rounds of the championship and be affiliated with their national federation.

Those who are accepted and line up to race will be given items from KTM’s PowerWear range, “[ensuring] all young riders enjoy a professional appearance when away from the racetrack,” according to KTM.

The series will follow the same format as the MXGP weekend, while its five rounds will take place as support races at five of this year’s MXGP races. It should be stressed that the format followed is equal to that which MXGP used during 2020 and 2021, with a timed qualifying session followed by two races, not the current and traditional two-day format involving a qualifying race.

The MXGP of Spain will host the first round of the championship on 29 May, with subsequent rounds at Ernee, Teutschenthal, and the season finale at Loket.

At the end of the season, the rider who leaves Loket as the series champion will be rewarded with an all-expenses-paid trip to the US for the Motocross des Nations which this year will take place at the world famous RedBud circuit in Michigan.

KTM’s Head of Global Marketing, Federico Valentini, said, “It’s really exciting that the European Junior e-Motocross Series is returning in 2022 following the success of last year. It proved to be hugely popular and the feedback we have received has been incredibly positive.”

He continued, “This year we will see the same racing format, which worked perfectly in 2021 and gives all the riders a very rare opportunity to race on the same tracks as their MXGP heroes.”

Finally, Valentini added, “The series really shows that KTM is 100% committed to both racing and our e-mobility research and development, with many of the racers last year choosing the KTM SX-E 5 as their bike of choice. It’s not too long until the first round and I’m sure the 2022 European Junior e-Motocross Series will be a huge success.”
