John McGuinness Reunited With ‘Stolen’ TT Winning Leathers
John McGuinness has the Isle of Man Police and the ‘power of social media’ to thank for the return of his cherished leathers
John McGuinness will be thanking the Manx Pixies this morning after being reunited with the race leathers he wore during his last Isle of Man TT win in 2015.
The story begins Monday night when around teatime, McGuinness put out a plea on his Instagram asking people to keep their eyes peeled for the blue, white and red, Honda Racing leathers. The post accompanying a picture of McGuinness with the leathers reads, “Absolutely devastated that the pair of leathers I won my last TT in 2015 have been stolen out of the street diner in the fan zone, they mean so much to me … reward for any information leading to their return.”
Well, it turns out that whoever it was that took the Alpinestars suit decided against trying to get off the island with them, as just a few hours after originally posting they’d been taken, the leathers were found, seemingly dumped at the side of the road somewhere along the TT course.
With the Morecambe Missile’s last race win at the Isle of Man coming in 2015, the clock is ticking and the jury is out on if, and when, he’ll ever stand on the top step of road racing’s most famous podium again. As we saw at the Northwest 200, though, when McGuinness snatched an emotional last-gasp podium in the CP Hire Superstock Race, he is still capable of running near the front and battling until the end.
Race day 3 continues this evening with RL360 Superstock TT Race 1, and Metzeler Supertwin TT Race 1 both scheduled to take place - timings for both are TBC.
