We’ve featured the new featherweight Kawasaki ZX-25R a few times recently, largely opining that we wish we could get the pocket rocket to these shores for a little bit of fun.

With a 250cc inline-four wrapped in a diminutive frame that apes the look of the firm’s all-conquering ZX-10RR full fat superbike, the ZX-25R whets our appetite just taking a glance at its rumoured spec-sheet.

It is understood the model will produce around 45HP, though there is talk of a 60HP version in the pipeline to make the hairs on our body stand on end. What we do know, however, is that it has a screaming redline of 17,000rpm, which was recently demonstrated with a few laps of the Jerez circuit courtesy of Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes.

Frustratingly, the fact this is going to be an Asian-market only model means we won’t be bothering the neighbours on Sunday morning with it (lucky them!), so we’ll have to take our audible pleasure for now in the form of this video from Kawasaki’s ever-helpful Indonesian arm, which took the ZX-25R to the dyno to push it to the max and demonstrate that orchestral beauty.

After its reveal at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, Kawasaki had been drip-feeding info on the bike ahead of its official launch of April 4. However, the coronavirus pandemic has pushed that back for now, so we’ll just have to wait a little longer to find out just how worried the likes of Honda should be about its new raucous rival.

Of course, there is nothing too extraordinary about what’s happening here in the video but so long as you turn the volume right up, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
