BSA has revealed a new scrambler-style concept bike, the BSA Scrambler, at the Motorcycle Live show in Birmingham.

Despite the interest in BSA’s Gold Star revival, it has also attracted attention at the NEC with its new Scrambler concept bike.

Believe it or not, it is a scrambler-style motorcycle with long-travel suspension, knobby tyres and a new paint job that features a #28 side plate, while the heart of the new concept bike is a 652cc single-cylinder engine.

The suspension and tyres - together with the headlight cover, wide handlebar and wire-spoke wheels - show the bike’s off-road styling, but the tread depth also indicated a dual-purpose, which is of course to be expected from a scrambler.

There is also a larger-diameter front wheel with a single brake disc, a dual-exit exhaust tailpipe and dual shock absorbers at the rear.

Perhaps the main disappointment here is the name itself. Ducati calls its scrambler range Scrambler, the scrambler from Royal Enfield is called the Scram, and Triumph - for their Street and 1200 scramblers - go simply with Scrambler, too.

There is a naming crisis in this sector of motorcycling, apparently. Either manufacturers do not think people will buy their motorcycles if they do not know specifically what it is from the name; manufacturers do not trust the public to be able to identify a scrambler; or manufacturers are incredibly uncreative when naming their products, especially those which you might describe as a ‘scrambler’.

Manufacturer-focused polemic aside, the BSA Scrambler as yet does not have a timeline for availability, nor a price tag, that we can tell you at time of writing (13:00 on 21 November 2022), but when that information becomes available rest assured you can find it here on Visordown.

You can check out the BSA Scrambler for yourself at Motorcycle Live, where BSA is located in Hall 3A, stand 3D10.
